Know someone who deserves a better day?

Nominate them for a professionally designed and renovated bathroom—completely free of charge.

What is Building Better Days

Building Better Days is Eagle Hill Homes' community renovation initiative, created to gift one deserving local family a professionally designed and renovated bathroom at no cost.

We're Sam and Nick Riccio - a husband-and-wife team and the founders of Eagle Hill Homes, a design-build remodeling company based in Melrose, Massachusetts.

A few years ago, while we were in the middle of building both our business and our future together, our lives changed overnight when Nick was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer at just 31 years old.

During one of the hardest seasons of our lives, our community showed up for us in ways we'll never forget. Friends, family, clients, local businesses, and even complete strangers reminded us that we weren't walking through it alone. Their kindness carried us through a time when we needed it most.

Building Better Days was born from that experience.

It's our way of paying that kindness forward by using the skills we use every day to help another family during a season when they could use a little hope.

Now, we're asking for your help finding that family.

If you know someone whose life could be meaningfully changed by a safer, more functional, and beautifully renovated bathroom, we'd be honored to hear their story.

Who Should Be Nominated?

We're looking for stories that inspire us.

Maybe it's...

  • A family navigating a serious illness.

  • A caregiver who's spent years putting everyone else first.

  • A veteran.

  • A senior hoping to safely age in place.

  • Someone facing financial hardship.

  • Someone living with accessibility challenges.

  • Or simply someone who's had an incredibly difficult season and could use a little hope.

If someone came to mind while reading this...

We'd love to hear their story.

FAQs

Who can be nominated?

Anyone who lives within Eagle Hill Homes' primary service area (generally within 10 miles of Melrose, MA) and owns the home where the renovation would take place, or has written permission from the homeowner. We're looking for individuals or families whose lives could be meaningfully improved by a professionally renovated bathroom.

Not sure if you fall within our service area? We'd still love to hear your story. Go ahead and submit your nomination—we'll review every application individually and let you know if it's a project we're able to consider.

Can I nominate myself?

Absolutely. Whether you're submitting your own story or nominating someone you care about, we'd love to hear from you.

Who are you hoping to help?

There isn't one "perfect" recipient.

We're hoping to find someone whose life could truly be changed by this renovation. That might be someone facing a serious illness, living with mobility challenges, caring for a loved one, experiencing financial hardship, aging in place, or simply going through a difficult season in life.

How is the recipient selected?

Every nomination is reviewed privately by our team at Eagle Hill Homes.

We'll thoughtfully consider each story, the potential impact of the renovation, project feasibility, and the family's circumstances before selecting one recipient. This is not a public vote or popularity contest.

Can I Submit More Than One Nomination?

Yes! If you know more than one individual or family who you believe could benefit from Building Better Days, you're welcome to submit multiple nominations.

We simply ask that you don't submit the same nomination more than once. One thoughtful submission per nominee is all that's needed.

If others know and care about that same individual or family, we absolutely welcome them to submit their own nomination as well. Hearing different perspectives often gives us a fuller picture of how this renovation could make a meaningful impact.

What happens after I submit a nomination?

Our goal is to review nominations throughout September and announce the recipient in late September or early October.

The renovation is expected to take place sometime between November and April, allowing us to work around the recipient family's schedule and needs.

Will the renovation be filmed and photographed?

Yes.

Building Better Days is built around sharing stories of hope and community. The selected recipient must be comfortable participating in photography and video.

This allows us to celebrate their story, recognize our generous Community Partners, and inspire Building Better Days for years to come.

Can I help even if I'm not nominating someone?

Absolutely!

One of the best ways to support Building Better Days is by sharing the campaign with friends and family, following our journey on Instagram, and helping us spread the word.

If you're a local business interested in becoming a Community Partner, we'd love to hear from you.

What if I don’t have a photo of the bathroom?

That's okay!

Photos help us better understand the space, but we know they aren't always available. We encourage you to submit your nomination anyway, and we'll reach out if we need additional information.

Do I have to share/ follow on social media?

No. We know not everyone has or uses social media—and that's completely okay. But if you do, we'd be incredibly grateful if you'd help us spread the word.

Every like, follow, comment, and share helps us reach more deserving families while also supporting the incredible local businesses that have generously donated their time, products, and services to make Building Better Days possible.

It truly makes a world of difference.
